Body recovered near Pyrgos dam

A dead body was discovered by locals near the Flokas dam on the outskirts of Pyrgos in the western Peloponnese, authorities said on Thursday.

The discovery prompted the response of 23 firefighters, six vehicles, an unmanned aerial vehicle operation team, as well as the 6th EMAK disaster response team stationed in the nearby city of Patra.

Prosecutor wants guilty verdict for child’s murder

The prosecutor in the trial of 35-year-old Roula Pispirigou from the western port city of Patra who stands accused of killing her 9-year-old daughter Georgina, has recommended she be found guilty of murder, and for an earlier failed attempt.

Prosecutor Eleftheria Spyridonakou argued that the evidence of Pispirigou's guilt was overwhelming.

Moderate quakes rattle the city of Patra, western Greece

An earthquake rattled the city of Patra and other areas in the Achaia region, western Greece at approximately 11.25 a.m. on Sunday. 

According to the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens, the earthquake had a 3.2 magnitude and its epicenter was located 13 kilometers south of Kato Achaia town, Peloponnese.

Thunderstorms on their way

The unprecedented summer weather conditions that prevailed until Wednesday throughout Greece gave way to heavy rain, which flooded streets of the western port city of Patra, on Thursday. Serious problems were also caused both on the old national road and the new Patra-Corinth highway, where landslides occurred.

Greek startup makes cosmetics out of coffee residue

Greek startup Coffee-eco, based in the western city of Patra, produces sunscreen, lip balm, face scrub, and anti-aging and moisturizing creams from coffee residue.

The effort got the attention of coffee chain Coffee Island, which has invested €400,000 in the startup, allowing it to set up a factory in Patra's industrial zone to produce its AuraSkin line of cosmetics.

Suburban railway in Patra to close for two days for maintenance

The Proastiakos suburban railway in the western port city of Patra will not be operating on Monday and Tuesday, Hellenic Train has announced.

Commuters and travelers who would normally be using the train on the Agios Andreas-Patra-Rio route will be accommodated on buses, the announcement said.

The railway is being temporarily closed down for repairs and maintenance.
