German, Bulgarian tourist couple found dead on Greek island

Greek authorities say a young tourist couple has been found dead in a house they were renting on a western island, with initial indications pointing to a double suicide.

Police said Tuesday the couple, whose bodies were found on the island of Cephalonia, had been identified as a 30-year-old German man and a 23-year-old woman of Bulgarian descent.

Small quake rattles Patra in the afternoon

A mild tremor shook the city of Patra in northwestern Peloponnese on Tuesday afternoon, without any damage reported.

The earthquake measured 3.4 degrees on the Richter scale, according to the Athens Geodynamic Institute, with its epicenter being the heart of the biggest city of the Peloponnese. It took place at 12.47 p.m. Greek time.

Group briefly occupies SYRIZA office in Patras

A group of self-styled anarchists briefly occupied the office of ruling SYRIZA in the town of Patras in western Greece on Friday.

The group hanged a banner from the office on the corner of Gounaris and Al. Ypsilantou Streets, denouncing last week's evacuation of two squats in Athens by police.

They also distributed leaflets before they ended their symbolic sit-in.

Brussels’ metro station attacker Khalid El Bakraoui had reached Greece from Italy in July 2015, according to Sky Italia TV network citing Italian counter-terrorism unit sources.

Specifically, on July 23, 2015, he flew to Italian city Treviso from Brussels and the next morning he flew from Marco Polo Airport in Venice to Athens.

Public transport in Greece on Thursday ground to a halt, ministries and schools were closed and hundreds of thousands took the streets in the largest strike in years.

There were no reports of injury or damage but footage from central Athens showed some protesters throwing Molotov-cocktails at the police and security forces fighting back with tear gas.
