Powerful earthquake recorded in Indonesia

A powerful and shallow 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck off the west coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra, according to US Geological Survey.

The epicentre was 502 miles southwest of Padang and it was 10 km deep. Up to now, there were no reports of damage or casualties.

Indonesian authorities issued a tsunami warning for the regions of West Sumatra, North Sumatra and Aceh.

The blaze started in the Lane-Poole Reserve near the city of Perth in the state of Western Australia and was reported early on Wednesday morning, while it has already burned more than 11,000 hectares.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services has issued a warning statement claiming that the fire is threatening human lives and homes, since it is moving fast.

Australian Labor Party MP Alannah MacTiernan reportedly wrote an e-mail to an unnamed Greek-Australian Labor party member who stated concern over her position on the renaming of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM). In her response to the citizen, MacTiernan wrote that it was not clear if “the original Macedonians can be described as ‘Greek'”.
