Italian actress Claudia Cardinale on Thursday was awarded an honorary degree by the National Academy for Theater and Film Arts (NATFA) in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The Bulgarian city of Plovdiv, which will become European Capital of Culture in 2019, is embarking Monday on a week-long period of events highlighting its image as a centuries-old centre of arts, crafts and entertainment.

Bulgaria has launched a project to promote its architectural heritage both domestically and abroad.

The project called Bulgaria in Miniature - Scale Models in the Open Air will feature 130 scale models of actual historical buildings located both within and outside the country.

Ivan Bogoev, 49, and a woman only identified as Anna K., 28, were detained for 72 hours on Thursday.
