Greeks and Albanians join forces to free trapped bear

An adult female bear was freed from an illegal trap thanks to the joint efforts of Greek and Albanian authorities and wildlife organizations.

Weighing approximately 90 kilograms, the five year old bear managed to survive deep in the woods for an entire week, caught in the grips of a steel wire noose, an illegal trap often used by poachers.

The archaeologists, who have been working in this field for a few years, say the discoveries confirm the earliest known practise of agriculture near the lake.

The discoveries have attracted the attention of the wider community, and the Albanian community living in Switzerland has organised a meeting with one of the best-known archaeologists on the team to discuss them.

Hundreds of people were forced to abandon their homes amid rising waters caused by heavy rains. Hundreds of police officers, including special forces units and even army helicopters were used in the rescue operations.
