Brazil’s samba symbol Monarco dead at 88
Brazilian singer and composer Hildemar Diniz, known as Monarco and considered one of the most important figures of samba music, died on Dec. 11 aged 88.
His death was announced by Portela, one of the most famous samba schools in Rio de Janeiro where he served as president.

Ambassador Amoiridis – 31-year sentence to his wife for planning his murder in 2016
The Brazilian wife of the Greek ambassador to Brazil, Kyriakos Amoiridis, was sentenced to 31 years in prison for his murder at the end of December 2016, as broadcast by the BBC.
The body of the Greek ambassador was found in the trunk of his charred car in Rio de Janeiro.
