Authorities have described the blast, which happened as Geshev's vehicle was slowing down on a highway near the town of Samokov on Monday, as intended to kill the top prosecutor.

Geshev was travelling with his wife and children but no one in the car was injured.

An accident with the motorcade of the chief prosecutor Ivan Geshev occurred on the road between Sofia and Samokov. According to information from the National Television, the chief prosecutor was supposed to travel to Turkey. Before leaving, he decided to go to a meeting with junior prosecutors in the Samokov region.

The incidence of coronavirus in Sofia district is 916 per 100,000 people in all 22 municipalities. "This indicator determines that Sofia region is in the second stage of the spread of the epidemic," Sofia regional governor Ivan Ivanov was quoted as saying by BTA.

Acting on information received about organised dog fights involving pit bulls, on 14 April, officers from the Sofia and Samokov police departments conducted an operation in a wooded area near Lake Iskar, in Pancharevo, said the Sofia Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior.

The TV station says the victim, which was found helpless near the town of Samokov on Wednesday afternoon and passed away before an ambulance arrived, was reportedly an Israeli national.
