Had the company done that, "this Court would have had the benefit of the views of the national courts", the ruling read.

The ECHR said the company had failed to take appropriate steps to enable national courts to fulfil their fundamental role.

The Secretary General of the European People's Party (EPP), Antonio Lopez, said in an interview with "NEA" newspaper that he agrees with the initiative of the Greek government to take unilateral measures to alleviate citizens' energy costs in the absence of a coordinated European framework. EU leader calls for Russian oil ban in new set of sanctions

The European Union's leader on Wednesday called on the 27-nation bloc to ban oil imports from Russia in a sixth package of sanctions targeting Moscow for its war in Ukraine.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also proposed that Sberbank, Russia's largest bank, and two other major banks be disconnected from the SWIFT international banking payment system.

European Court Orders Croatia to Compensate Daughters of Killed Serb

The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg ruled on Thursday that Croatia must pay 5,000 euros in compensation because five Serb women whose father was killed during the Croatian Army's Operation Storm in 1995 were unlawfuly made to pay court costs in a civil case they launched against the state in the domestic courts.

The EP has approved € 3.4 billion for countries that have accepted refugees from Ukraine

EU countries that have taken refuge from the Russian invasion of Ukraine will immediately receive 3.4 billion euros, MEPs in Strasbourg have decided.

At its session, the European Parliament gave the green light to redirect EU funds for regional development and asylum to member states sheltering Ukrainian refugees. MEPs have now adopted additional emergency measures to support them.

European Court: Montenegro Failed to Compensate Bus Crash Victims

The court said Montenegro violated the European Convention on Human Rights, which says that everyone is entitled to a fair and public hearing within a reasonable time by an independent and impartial tribunal.

EU agriculture ministers delve into low-carbon farming

Strasbourg – EU agriculture ministers, including Slovenia’s Jože Podgoršek, learned on Monday about a low-carbon farming project and the work of France’s Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAe) in the field of viticulture, as part of a two-day informal meeting hosted by the French EU presidency.
