Tandarei

The authorities on Saturday banned anyone from entering or leaving the town of Tandarei in Ialomita county in south-east Romania after abnormally large numbers of COVID-19 infections and deaths were registered in the municipality of 13,000 in recent days.

The appeal court ruling on December 23 wrapped up a decade-long case that many saw a test of Romania's commitment to fighting modern slavery. Rights groups and legal experts called the verdict a "huge failure" of the justice system and a betrayal of victims.
