Turkish wrestler Taha Akgül wins European championship
Olympic champion Turkish wrestler Taha Akgül on April 22 won gold in the 2021 European Championships in Warsaw.
Akgul secured his eighth European title as the 30-year-old beat his Russian opponent Sergei Kozyrev via disqualification (9-2) in men's freestyle 125-kg gold medal match.
He previously won gold in the 2016 Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro.
Turkey, Uzbekistan aim to enhance trade volume to $5 bln
Turkey and Uzbekistan aim to enhance their bilateral trade volume to $5 billion, the Turkish trade minister said on April 8.
Ruhsar Pekcan, who met her Uzbek counterpart Sardor Umurzakov in Tashkent, said the countries can achieve the target with a balanced trade based on a win-win approach.
Turkey opens consulate in Uzbekistan’s Samarkand
Turkey on March 7 opened a consulate general in the historical Samarkand city of Uzbekistan.
Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu inaugurated the Turkish Consulate General in Samarkand.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Çavuşoğlu said the consulate will be the new symbol of permanent fraternity with Turkey's fatherland Uzbekistan.

President Iohannis accredits several ambassadors

Palestine thanks Turkey for medical aid
Medical aid from Turkey came at a time when the government needed it the most, Palestinian Authority's deputy foreign minister said April 30.
"This help meets the needs of Palestine in a critical period when the Palestinian budget is inadequate and the economy is negatively affected by the coronavirus outbreak," Ahmad ed-Dijk told Anadolu Agency.

Romania's Olaru, wins gold, silver at Tashkent weightlifting competition
Romanian weightlifter Raluca Olaru won one gold and two silver medals on Monday in the women's 64 kg class of the sixth edition of the International Solidarity Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, a Silver qualification event for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, according to the Facebook page of the Romanian Weightlifting Federation.
Sorana Cirstea qualifies for final of Tashkent WTA tournament
Romanian tennis player Sorana Cirstea qualified, on Friday, for the final of the 250,000-dollar WTA tournament in Tashkent (Uzbekistan), after defeating Katarina Zavatska (Ukraine) in the next to last act, by 6-0, 6-3. Cirstea (29 years old, WTA #96), seeded eighth, will play her second final in Tashkent, after conquering there her only singles' title in her career, in 2008.

Romanian tennis player Sorana Cirstea qualified on Wednesday for the quarterfinals of the WTA tournament in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) - Tashkent Open 2019, with total prizes worth 250,000 US dollars, after defeating Belgian Ysaline Bonaventure, with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. Cirstea (aged 29, WTA's 96th), 8th seed, managed to win in two hours and 14 minutes.
