Thessaloniki also known as Thessalonica, Salonika or Salonica, is the second-largest city in Greece and the capital of the region of Macedonia. Greeks consider it like συμπρωτεύουσα (the associated-capital) of the Northern Greece. Indeed, Thessaloniki was already the largest city of the Byzantine Empire after Constantinople.
Fire breaks out near Thessaloniki
A fire was reported in an agricultural and wooded area in the wider region of the northern port city of Thessaloniki on Thursday.
According to the announcement made by the Hellenic Fire Service, the fire is not threatening any settlements. There are 33 firefighters, nine vehicles and one helicopter on scene to tackle the blaze.

Thessaloniki medical clinic evacuated after fire breaks out
Staff and patients - including a woman in labor - had to be evacuated after a fire broke out in a medical clinic in the northern port city of Thessaloniki on Tuesday morning.
The Fire Service responded to the blaze in the city center in force, ordering the immediate evacuation of the facility and closing off surrounding streets to traffic and pedestrians.

Thessaloniki man arrested for raping former partner
A 38-year-old man was arrested in the northern port city of Thessaloniki on Tuesday for allegedly raping his former partner.
The 42-year-old woman told police that the man came to her apartment on Monday afternoon and raped her.
The suspect is being led before a prosecutor.
