Chinese foreign minister Qin Gang removed from office

China's foreign minister Qin Gang was removed from office on Tuesday, state media reported, after not being seen in the public eye for a month.

His absence had sparked a storm of speculation that Qin, considered a confidant of President Xi Jinping, had fallen from grace or was subject to an official investigation.

China calls West's economic de-risking 'false proposition'

Chinese Premier Li Qiang slammed efforts in the West to "de-risk" their economies as a "false proposition" yesterday, hitting back against U.S. and EU policy aimed at reducing their reliance on China.

The United States and the European Union have in recent months moved to "de-risk" from the world's second-largest economy.

China’s first homegrown passenger jet makes maiden commercial flight

China's first domestically produced passenger jet, the C919, took off on its maiden commercial flight on Sunday, a milestone event in the nation's decades-long effort to compete with Western rivals in the air.    

China Eastern Airlines flight MU9191 rose into the skies above Shanghai Hongqiao Airport just after 10:30 a.m., footage from state broadcaster CCTV showed.    

70% of Shanghai's Population has COVID-19

The chief doctor at one of Shanghai's top hospitals said 70 percent of the metropolis's population was infected with COVID-19 during China's massive surge in cases, Chinese media reported.

The sharp rise in the number of infections came after strict restrictions were suddenly eased last month without warning or preparation and quickly overwhelmed hospitals and crematoriums.
