Minority party eyes alliances to make way into Parliament

Bolstered by a strong performance in last month's European Parliament elections, the Party of Equality, Peace and Friendship (KIEF), which represents the interests of Greece's Muslim minority in Western Thrace, is looking for electoral alliances that would boost its chances of parliamentary representation after the July 7 vote.

Weapons and ammunition found at Xanthi Mosque

Greek authorities are on alert after weapons and ammunition were found at a Mosque in the city of Xanthi in the eastern Macedonia and Thrace regions in the north of Greece. According to reports by newspaper “Kathimerini”, Greek intelligence officers detected the weapons after receiving tips and proceeded to investigate a Mosque in the village of Iliopetra of the Topiros municipality.

'I love Greece... I'll wait patiently'

Every Wednesday, a 60-year-old man identified only by his initials - P.S. - attends a Greek language class in Tel Aviv. No one was surprised to see him take up the lessons, given the fact that P.S., who retired six months ago, is half-Greek.

"I started the process to acquire Greek citizenship 12 years ago," P.S. told Kathimerini in a recent interview.

Nine jet pilots back in the army after being released from detention
