Brussels airlines expands year-round flights to Greece
Brussels Airlines will operate flights to Greece throughout the year. Until recently, the Belgian airline offered seasonal flights during the summer. However, due to increased demand for travel between Greece and Brussels year-round, the airline has decided to expand its schedule.
The bad weather continues in the Ionian Sea – Powerful whirlpool between Zakynthos and Kyllini
A powerful whirlpool was created in the sea area of Zakynthos, just as express weather has been hitting the Ionian islands since midday on Monday.
The impressive natural phenomenon was noticed off the island from the city side, as a whirlpool appeared for some time.

The images posted on a Facbook page as the fire raged in a Zakynthos forest on Sunday night are causing outrage.
In particular, the video posted on the Forecast Weather Greece page shows people continuing to have fun at a festival, while the fire was burning uncontrollably in the forest directly behind them.

Construction spikes on islands in 2023
Island municipalities issued the largest number of new building permits in 2023, with the top five comprising Lefkada and Zakynthos in the Ionian, Paros and Naxos in the Cyclades, and the Dodecanese island of Rhodes, according to the National Statistical Service of Greece (ELSTAT).

Iconic Zakynthos beach shipwreck ‘disappearing’
Local authorities on the Ionian island of Zakynthos want to take over the management and maintenance of the iconic shipwreck on Navagio Beach, which has suffered extensive damage and is at risk of vanishing altogether.
Local reports say the wreck has been badly battered by waves and bad weather, especially during winter, while sand has largely covered the hull.

Moderate quake felt in Zakynthos
An earthquake with preliminary magnitude 4 struck οn the island of Zakynthos in western Greece on Monday.
The Athens Geodynamic Institute said the quake occurred at 14.35 p.m. local time, 10 kilometers southwest of Zakynthos town, at a depth of 14 kilometers.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injury from the quake.

Greek authorities shut down public venues in three of 51 prefectures, COVID-19 cases rise to 31 today.
Schools, universities, theatres, cinemas, athletics facilities, archaeological sites, artistic venues and museums have been closed initially for a period of 48 hours in the prefectures of Achaia, Elia, and Zakynthos.
Nationwide measures will be re-evaluated after that period.
Emergency measures for three prefectures over Covid-19
The government announced emergency measures on Wednesday evening in the prefectures of Ilia, Zakynthos and Achaia in western Greece to contain the spread of the coronavirus after a ninth case was confirmed earlier in the day.
Under the measures schools, sports arenas, cinemas, theaters and archaeological sites will be closed for 48 hours.
Zakynthos jolted by 4.2-magnitude quake
The Ionian island of Zakynthos in western Greece was jolted by a 4.2-magnitude earthquake at noon Tuesday.
According to the Athens Geodynamic Institute, the tremor struck at a depth of 2 kilometers and its epicenter was 63 kilometers southwest of the main town of Zakynthos.
A 3.1-magnitude aftershock followed shortly after. No injuries or damage were reported.

Zakynthos rattled by 4.1 Richter quake
A mild 4.1 magnitude earthquake rattled the Ionian island of Zakynthos on Wednesday.
According to the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens, the quake occurred at 9.37 a.m., while its epicenter was located 47 kilometers south of Zakynthos.
