It seems hard to believe the Greek stock market's benchmark was testing the waters close to 900 points just a few weeks ago. On Monday it was drawn closer to the 800-point mark, once again driven by pressure on bank stocks, while trading volume was desperately low.

Tuesday's bourse session was a mixed bag, with a few package transactions boosting trading volume in what was otherwise a quiet day at Athinon Avenue. However, there was notable pressure on bank stocks.

The surprise sovereign rating upgrade by Moody's and signs of a recovery on Wall Street boosted activity on the Greek stock market on Thursday, with buyers regaining the upper hand and trading volume posting an improvement.

Jitters ahead of the beginning of the bank stress tests today and the decline seen across eurozone markets led the Greek bourse to losses of more than 2 percent on Tuesday, with the credit sector taking a heavy beating.

The Greek stock market saw buyers take a step back on Thursday, with the market showing a mixed picture after three days of strong gains: Banks and Coca-Cola HBC dragged the benchmark lower, but the majority of stocks ended the day higher.

Shares in Public Power Corporation soared 15.69 percent on Wednesday, and along with ADMIE Holdings' 5.09 percent rise powered the benchmark of the Greek bourse to another day of significant gains, with daily turnover remaining above the 100-million-euro mark. This time banks were mere also-rans in a session dominated by energy stocks.

A stock rally in the latter half of Thursday's session in Athens saw the benchmark swing back to gains, after a continuation of Wednesday's losses in the morning. Banks enjoyed robust growth, leading trading volume to its highest level this week.

The pattern of one losing session in every six continued at the Athens bourse on Wednesday as the benchmark posted a small decline with the morning losses contained over the course of the day. The volatile session saw an increase in turnover above the 70-million-euro mark.

While traders on the Greek bourse chose to cash in on Tuesday's gains on Wednesday, the momentum of stock growth has not evaporated, as most of the losses were offset by the end of the session and the majority of stocks ended back in the green, albeit with a smaller turnover.

Energy and banking stocks led the Greek bourse to another day of gains on Monday, with December shaping up to be one of the year's most profitable months at Athinon Avenue. This was the fourth consecutive session of growth for the benchmark, although turnover was significantly lower than on Friday.
