Turkey reacts to Greece's territorial waters extension
ISTANBUL - Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted in an announcement Wednesday that Greece's extension of its territorial waters from 6 to 12 miles does not regard the Aegean Sea and repeated the country's objections against such an extension in the Aegean.
UN-funded project initiated to protect seagrass in Ayvalık Islands
A U.N.-funded project started on Jan. 12 in the Ayvalık district of the northwestern province of Balıkesir against the ghost nets and other illegal fishing gear threatening seagrass that preserve ecological balance.
Greek PM thanks Portugal for Frontex contribution
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Monday thanked the Portuguese government and coast guard for their contribution in guarding Greece and Europe's eastern sea border in the Aegean.

Tension near Imia after Greek, Turkish coast guard boats collide
A Greek and a Turkish Coast Guard boat collided near the rocky islets of Imia in the Aegean Sea on Wednesday morning when the Turkish vessel rammed the Greek one which was patrolling the area, according to the Greek Coast Guard on Wednesday.
The Greek newly-built Rafnar type speedboat suffered some damages, according to sources that did not specify their extent.
EU extends support for refugees in Turkey to early 2022
The EU on Dec. 23 announced that humanitarian support for refugees in Turkey will be extended until early 2022.
"These programs help over 1.8 million refugees meet their basic needs and will help over 700,000 children to continue their education," said a European Commission statement.
Turkish, German leaders hold video talk
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in a video conference on Dec. 19 discussed bilateral ties and Turkey-EU relations.
"Turkey wants to open a new page in relations with the EU," Erdoğan said, according to a statement from Turkey's Communications Directorate.

Greece arrests two men on Rhodes on suspicion of spying
Two Greek men on the island of Rhodes have been arrested on suspicion of spying against Greece, police said late on Saturday.
It did not specify on whose behalf the suspects were allegedly spying.
