Moderate losses for Alpha after derisking process

Alpha Bank slipped into the red in the fourth quarter after booking costs related to a voluntary retirement plan and fixed asset impairments.

Alpha, 11 percent owned by Greece's bank rescue fund HFSF, on Tuesday reported a net loss from continuing operations of 64 million euros after a net profit of 35.6 million euros in the third quarter.

B2Kapital announces deal with Alpha Bank

B2Kapital Greece announced it has entered into an agreement with Alpha Bank to purchase a nonperforming portfolio of retail unsecured loans in Greece.

The portfolio has a purchase price of 90 million euros.

The portfolio contains loans with a nominal value of 3.7 billion euros, which will be sold at 4.5 percent of their original price.

Greece's Eurobank is looking to increase its market share in Serbia and would consider an acquisition if an opportunity arises, its chief executive told Reuters on the sidelines of a business forum.

Eurobank, the only Greek bank operating in Serbia, is the EU candidate country's seventh-largest bank with a 4.5 percent share of the market.
