At least 150 injured, including Turkish driver, as tornado strikes Czech Republic

A powerful tornado swept through several villages in the South Moravia region of the Czech Republic on June 24, injuring at least 150 people and causing major damage, according to initial estimates.

There was serious damage in at least seven villages, with many homes destroyed, according to press statements from the South Moravia Fire Department.

Turkey to demand better protection for Turks in France

Turkey will ask French officials to find perpetrators of recent attacks on the Turkish community by PKK supporters, diplomatic sources said on April 9. 

Turkey's Ambassador to Paris Ali Onaner will meet French officials and also request that France provide better protection for the community, according to Turkish diplomatic sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Turkey inaugurates new consulate building in Pakistan

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on Jan. 14 inaugurated the country's new consulate building in Pakistan's commercial capital Karachi.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Çavuşoğlu said the new building is a symbol of Turkey-Pakistan friendship, which will be further strengthened in days to come.

Turkish officer appointed NATO Sarajevo HQ deputy head

A Turkish colonel was appointed as the deputy commander of NATO's Sarajevo base in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey announced on Jan. 8. 

Following the appointment of army Col. Olcay Denizer, Turkey's National Defense Ministry said in a statement that the country's military fulfilled important duties in Bosnia and Herzegovina and noted Sarajevo's efforts to join NATO.
