Attiki Odos SA, the company that manages the Attica ring road, said Wednesday it will freeze a planned hike to toll charges following talks with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

The ministry, in turn, has held back a bill prepared by the previous government halting the raise until the motorway's concession is re-examined.

The clash between the Infrastructure Ministry and Attiki Odos SA, the operator of the capital's ringroad, is showing no signs of letup, as the former is suspending the toll hike planned on the highway from July 1 through a legislative act.

Construction sector experts speak of a handout of 250-300 million euros to Attiki Odos SA's shareholders, due to the upcoming confirmation of Infrastructure Minister Christos Spirtzis's decision to approve a two-year extension to the concession contract for the operation of the capital's homonymous ring road.
