Anticipating the surge in holiday travel, the Bulgarian Railway Company, "BDZ - Passenger Transport," is set to accommodate the festive influx by providing an additional 17,000 seats for travelers during the Christmas season.

A train with a graffiti-decorated locomotive departed today, August 13, from Sofia to Bourgas. The idea of the Bulgarian state railway company, BDZ, is one of a kind and aims to show that painting in an urban environment can have a beautiful end result, reports BNT. 

In order to provide a more convenient way to travel to Turkey, covering a wider range of clients of the national railway carrier, the train to Edirne is now being discussed to leave from Sofia.

BDZ will buy new trains worth BGN 100 mln.

By the end of the year, according to the plans of the company, a procedure should be announced for the purchase of a new trains.

The new machines will be used for the Sofia-Varna and Sofia-Burgas lines.

Funds are expected to come from the capital transfer from the budget.

Tickets are now available for the adventure trip with Baba Metsa retro train, Bulgaria's railway company BDZ said on May 10, reports BNT. 

The adventure journey with the steam locomotive from Sofia to Bankya will start from Sofia central station at 09:00 on May 18.

"BDZ - Passenger Transport" Ltd. introduces pre-sale of tickets for all fast trains for the coming holidays around the National Holiday, reported the Bulgarian National Television. 

Amendments to the law on rail transport, adopted by the Parliament on Thursday's first reading, facilitate the access of foreign railway operators to the Bulgarian market. They will now have the right to carry passengers.

On holidays the customers of BDZ will be able to travel in the busiest directions only after reservation in advance, the passengers without reservation will be returned. That's what BD Executive Director Vladimir Vladimirov announced in the show "This morning" on bTV in response to a question about crowded trains during the holidays.

The government approved BGN 30.9 million in additional payments from the state budget to the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications.

The sum will be given to state-owned railway operator BDZ and should be repaid by December 28, 2020, the government press office said.

BDZ will use the funds to repay debt contracted in 2007.
