Turkey may soon sign an agreement to buy an experimental vaccine being developed by Pfizer and BioNTech, Professor Uğur Şahin, the founder of the Germany-based company, has said.

German pharmaceutical company BioNTech is confident that its coronavirus vaccine works against the new UK variant, but further studies are need to be completely sure, its chief executive said Tuesday.

There are 4.800 vaccines in the contingent, and, according to earlier announcements, they are intended primarily for users of nursing homes.

The European Union geared up to start mass vaccinations against Covid-19 just after Christmas after the shot developed by Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech cleared regulatory hurdles on Monday.

Greek health authorities have ascertained a steady but very slow de-escalation of pressure on the country's health system over the last two weeks.

However, the estimates that the number of intubated patients will drop to 300 by Christmas have yet to be confirmed, making it difficult for authorities to reach any decisions about the duration of restrictions. 

Ljubljana – Care homes will be among the first to get the vaccine against Covid-19 as it becomes available in Slovenia later this month, however while interest in getting a jab is considerable among residents, staff appear to be less keen for the time being.

The European Medicines Agency said on Dec. 21 that it had approved the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine, paving the way for inoculations to start across the EU within days.    

The Amsterdam-based regulator dramatically moved the decision on the jab ahead from December 29, following pressure to accelerate the process from Germany and other EU states.    

The European Medicines Agency says an expert committee has recommended conditional approval for a coronavirus vaccine developed by BioNTech and Pfizer to be used across the European Union, weeks after the shot was first granted permission under emergency provisions in Britain and the United States.
