Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine gains full US regulatory approval

The U.S. drug regulator on Aug. 23 granted full approval to the Pfizer Inc/BioNTech SE COVID-19 vaccine - the first to secure such Food and Drug Administration validation - prompting President Joe Biden to make a fresh pitch to vaccine skeptics to get the shot to fight the relentless pandemic.

The EU will recognise national Covid certificates from Turkey, Ukraine and North Macedonia from Friday, opening the way to easier travel for their residents, the European Commission said.

The "equivalence decisions" mean those three countries' certificates will be connected to the bloc-wide EU Digital Covid Certificate system, the EU executive said in a statement.

Turkey joins EU COVID pass system

The European Union will accept Turkish COVID-19 certificates as of Aug. 20, the European Commission announced on on Aug. 19. 


The EU executive body adopted equivalence decisions for the COVID-19 certificates issued by the authorities of Turkey, North Macedonia, and Ukraine.

Turkey to start vaccinating teenagers aged 15 and up

Turkey on Aug. 16 expanded its vaccination campaign to include minors at least 15 years old, as well as those at least 12 years old who suffer from chronic disease.


Healthcare workers and other priority groups will also be able to receive their fourth vaccine doses, the Health Ministry announced in a series of new decisions.
