The number of COVID-19 vaccines Turkey has administered since the start of the inoculation drive in mid-January has surpassed 90 million doses.

Nearly 36 million people have been fully vaccinated while some 47 million have been given their first doses of the jab against the deadly virus.

The European Union will accept Turkish COVID-19 certificates as of Aug. 20, the European Commission announced on on Aug. 19.

The EU executive body adopted equivalence decisions for the COVID-19 certificates issued by the authorities of Turkey, North Macedonia, and Ukraine.

A third dose of a COVID-19 vaccine offers better protection against the coronavirus, Turkey's Health Minister Fahrettin Koca has said, urging people to get the booster shot.

"Some countries have already given the third dose - Turkey, the Emirates, the UK, Hungary, there have been various combinations.

Namely, starting from Tuesday, citizens will receive an SMS and an e-mail message with instructions.
