Bulgarian President and Bulgarian PM in Dispute over North Macedonia and Bulgargaz

President Rumen Radev described the prime minister's visit to Skopje as hasty. Kiril Petkov did not agree with Radev's assessment.

Natural gas to increase in price by nearly 16 percent in October, "Bulgargaz" has suggested to the energy regulator. However, the calculations were made more than 10 days ago, during which the prices of natural gas on European stock exchanges continued to jump.

Bulgaria: Natural Gas Price Set for Sharp Jump of 20%

Bulgaria's Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) has endorsed a price of 45.27 leva/MWh for natural gas, effective June 1, 2021, the regulator said in a press release on Monday.

The new price, which excludes the charges for access, transmission, excise duty and VAT, is 20 per cent higher than its May 1 level (37.71 per cent) and 122 per cent up from June 1, 2020.

Azeri Natural Gas Starts Flowing to Bulgaria on 1 January 2021

From December 31, Bulgaria will start receiving natural gas from Azerbaijan. According to the signed contract between Bulgargaz and the Azerbaijani oil company SOCAR, 1 billion cubic meters of gas per year will be delivered to our country from the Shah Deniz 2 gas field for a period of 25 years, the government press office reported.

Energy Watchdog Chair: There is no Way Money Can be Refunded to Consumers as a Result of Gas Price Reduction

Ivan Ivanov, chair of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission stated that without amendments to the law there is no way money can be refunded to consumers as a result of the reduction in natural gas prices. He added that such a decision with retroactive effect would be annulled in court, BNR reported.
