An explosion rocked the Machinery and Chemical Industry Corporation's (MKE) capsule factory in Ankara's Mamak district, leaving four workers injured on July 18.

Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the tragic explosion that claimed the lives of five workers at a factory located in Ankara's Elmadağ district.

Five workers lost their lives in a tragic explosion at the Machinery and Chemical Industry Corporation's (MKE) rocket and explosives factory in the capital Ankara's Elmadağ district.

Yasin Akdere, the head of the Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKE), has described their new close-in air defense system as "crazy," as the system has the ability to provide the most effective air defense against missiles and other weapon systems.

İYİ (Good) Party leader Meral Akşener on July 7 criticized the transformation of the Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation's (MKE) weapons factory into a joint-stock company and the inclusion of the Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEİAŞ) in the scope of privatization.

Turkey's defense sector is contributing to the production of protective masks and ventilators essential in the fight against COVID-19, said an official on April 24.

Yasin Akdere, general manager of the Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation, said all kinds of masks, including N95 required by healthcare personnel, are produced in the factories.

A mass production agreement for Turkey's first locally designed and produced assault rifle has been signed with a local company, the Defense Industries Undersecretariat has said. 

"Some 10,000 MPT-76 will be manufactured by Sarsılmaz Silah Sanayi under the assault rifle supply project," the undersecretariat said in a written statement.        

The Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKEK) delivered Turkey's indigenous infantry rifle (MPT-76) to the Defense Ministry on Jan. 11. 

A Turkish state weapons factory head was sentenced to nearly 13 years in prison on Dec. 29 for trying to sell Turkish weapons designs to a U.S. company, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.
