ATHEX: Benchmark climbs for sixth week

In anticipation of the Piraeus Bank placement next week, the Greek stock market had a rather quiet day on Friday, at the closing of another week of gains for the main index at Athinon Avenue, the sixth in a row. The blue chip index and that of banks headed lower on the day, while the majority of stocks and the mid-cap index ended up with gains.

ATHEX: Index fails to surmount 1,350-pt mark

The vast majority of Greek stocks ended Thursday's trading session with gains, but some non-bank blue chips held the benchmark back from hitting a new nine-year high and the 1,350-point level, which remains elusive for now. The positive messages from the US Fed and the European Central Bank create a favorable climate for further price growth in the coming days, analysts note.

ATHEX: Stock market index edges even higher

A number of energy and industrial blue chips kept the Greek stock market benchmark on a positive course on Friday, in the face of the decline of the majority of stocks and the banks index. The main index ended the week at another nine-year high through its marginal growth, which revealed fatigue on the part of traders and the resilience of some index-heavy stocks.

ATHEX: Negligible loss for benchmark

A balanced session with particularly low turnover brought the week to a close at the Greek stock market as external pressures were mostly offset by the upward moves by blue chip heavyweights Coca-Cola HBC and Piraeus Bank. The slip of the main index took the weekly result from a rise to a marginal loss.

ATHEX: Bourse slide contained at auctions

Thursday's bourse session at Athinon Avenue proved to be the second in a row with losses for most stocks, although in the closing auctions the main index contained its decline and the banks index actually swung into gains. Turnover dropped to the lowest level in almost two weeks, but Friday's session is expected to make up for it.
