A 4-year-old girl was being treated in an intensive care unit in a hospital in Thessaloniki after being bitten by a snake on Wednesday. It came just a day after a similar incident occurred involving a 13-year-old boy in Ioannina, northwestern Greece.

Suspect in Kos murder remanded pending trial
The 32-year-old Bangladeshi accused of raping and murdering 27-year-old Anastazja Rubinska on the island of Kos last week has been detained pending trial.
Appearing before an investigative magistrate on Wednesday for three hours, he reportedly denied the charges.

Mayor in Thessaloniki warns of wild boar population explosion
A mayor of one of Thessaloniki's municipalities has highlighted the presence of up to 9,000 wild boars in the area, warning that their number could jump four times that in two years unless measures are taken to control them.
Dozens rescued from Evros River islet
Dozens of children were among 145 asylum seekers who were rescued off an islet in the Evros River on the Greek-Turkish border on Thursday morning.
They had reportedly been stranded on the islet for several days after apparently trying to cross into Greece from Turkey. How they became stranded was not clear.

Fire breaks out in residential East Attica town
A fire broke out in the seaside East Attica town of Artemida on Thursday morning and while it was burning close to homes in the residential area of Agios Ioannis, the fire service has brought it under control.
According to state broadcaster ERT, the blaze is still burning in an expanse of dry brush and weeds at the end of Ioanninon Street but is no longer threatening homes.

The municipal authority of Marathon, East Attica, has vowed to launch a probe into the illegal construction of 13 seaside bungalows on a privately owned plot of land inside a Natura-protected national park.
Two men given life over 2022 rape of British teenager on Crete
The Rethymno Mixed Jury Court on the island of Crete handed life sentences on Wednesday to two Pakistani men, aged 24 and 27, who were convicted for the rape last July of an 18-year-old British tourist.
Migrants rescued from boat found off Kalymnos
Sixty-eight migrants found on Monday on a sailboat northwest of the coast of the small island of Leros, in southeastern Greece, were rescued and transferred to the island, state-run broadcaster ERT reported.
The migrants were picked up by a merchant ship that was sailing nearby and then by the Coast Guard that transferred them to Leros.

Sailboat being monitored near area of deadly wreck
A sailboat with about 60 people on board some 100 kilometers off Pylos on Greece's southern coast was spotted on Friday by Italian authorities, who informed their Greek counterparts.
The vessel did not send a distress signal, and was, reportedly, sailing normally.
It was reportedly being monitored by the authorities, according to state broadcaster ERT.

Relatives of migrant ship passengers seek their loved ones in Kalamata
Relatives of passengers who were aboard a trawler crammed with migrants that went down in the Mediterranean Sea early Wednesday have begun arriving in Kalamata, where the survivors have been taken, in the search for their loved ones.
People have come from Cyprus, the Netherlands and Germany, according to state broadcaster ERT.
