Belarus Must Abolish the Death Penalty in order to Become a Member of the European Council

The use of the death penalty in Belarus does not allow the country to be a member of the European Council. This was stated yesterday by Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen after a meeting in Vienna with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, TASS reported.

Bulgaria, Azerbaijan Presidents Discuss Energy Cooperation

Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev has told Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev that his country has advanced in the construction of gas links with neighboring states.

Plevneliev informed his counterpart that the Bulgaria is poised to complete the construction of the gas link with Romania and is to start building the interconnection with Greece.

Romania's Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu on Thursday in Riga signed a joint declaration of Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovakia on natural gas transmission, as part of his participation in a summit of the EU's Eastern Partnership.
