Ljubljana – Economy Minister Zdravko Počivalšek took part in the virtual European Space Conference to present the opportunities for Slovenian science and economy brought by the country’s participation in the European Space Agency. He sees this sector as an opportunity for successful recovery after the coronavirus crisis.

"We expect our country to join the eurozone in 2024. The main tasks of the Bulgarian Government on the way to achieving this goal are related to the fulfilment of the subsequent commitments under the Roadmap after the accession of the Bulgarian Lev to ERM II, as of July 10, 2020. 

Ljubljana – Banka Slovenije and the European Investment Bank (EIB) discussed investment priorities in the wake of the coronavirus crisis. Investment success will translate into effective crisis exit strategies, said Boštjan Vasle, the governor of Slovenia’s central bank.

Ljubljana – Telekom Slovenije has signed a loan agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) worth up to EUR 100 million for the expansion of its fibre optic network through 2023.

Five Greek islands have been symbolically added to Europa Nostra's list of endangered cultural heritage sites this year due to the increased risk to landscapes posed by the excessive development of wind farms.

These islands are Amorgos, Kimolos, Sikinos, Tinos and Kythira in the southern Aegean.

The program to improve the energy efficiency of government buildings will start with an initial budget of 500 million provided by the European Investment Bank.
The program, aimed at improving energy use for the buildings' heating, cooling and lighting, will run from 2020 to 2026.

At today's regular meeting, the government approved changes to the budget of the Ministry of Finance for 2020 to increase the capital of the Fund of Funds with a cash contribution of BGN 375,000. The increase of the capital of the company will be carried out by issuing new registered shares with a nominal value of BGN 1 each.

The Cyprus government announced an 'improved plan B' with a major input from the European Investment Bank to rescue the economy hurt by the coronavirus pandemic with loans worth €1.7 bln, as well as subsidies of interest rates for business and housing loans, after it failed to pass a smaller loans-guarantee scheme through parliament which would have required greater transparency.

During Friday's Eurogroup teleconference, Finance Minister Christos Staikouras is determined to press for swift decisions and efficient procedures so that support programs are immediately implemented in the eurozone.

Speaking at a briefing on May 6 after his participation in the EU-Western Balkans Summit, Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said that the EU is mobilizing very quickly a package of more than 3.3 billion euros for the health systems of the Western Balkans.
