Turkey, Italian-French consortium advance talks on air defense systems

Cooperation between European manufacturer of anti-air missiles Eurosam and Turkish defense organizations will provide technology transfer to Turkey and bring the opportunity of export to third party markets, Ambassador of Italy to Ankara Luigi Mattiolo told Hürriyet Daily News, as the two sides advance talks on the Turkish procurement of the SAMP-T missile system.

US warns Ankara that Russian S-400 purchase will mean no F-35s

Washington has given Ankara an ultimatum as regards the latter's decision to buy Russian S-400 surface-to-air missiles worth 2.5 billion dollars, according to Turkish newspaper Hurriyet. 

If Ankara proceeds with the sale, it will not receive 5th generation F-35 stealth fighters from the US, according to the Turkish newspaper.

Sweden to replace its entire anti-aircraft system

The current anti-aircraft system used by the Swedish Armed Forces is ageing, and is to be replaced in full amid airborne threats changing character, The Local writes.
Sweden's surface-to-air Hawk missiles (Robotsystem 97) were first developed by Raytheon in the US at the end of the 1950s. The system has since been upgraded many times, but now needs replacing.

Russian S-400 air defense system purchase ‘most likely,’ Turkish minister confirms

Russia’s S-400 long-range air defense missile system is most likely to be selected for Turkey’s long-range anti-missile shield, Turkish Defense Minister Fikri Işık has said.

“Russia’s S-400 missile system seems to be the most possible in discussions. Some progress was obtained in the talks, but we are not at the stage of a signature yet,” Işık said Feb. 22 in a televised interview.
