Greece overall inflation low but food prices are soaring
Greece's Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices was confirmed to have risen 3.5% year-on-year in July, up from 2.8% in June, by the European Union's statistics agency Eurostat.
Despite the spike, Greek inflation is the sixth lowest among EU members: countries with lower inflation are Belgium (1.7%), Luxembourg (2%), Spain (2.1%), Cyprus (2.4%) and Denmark (3.2%).
Inflation rises steeply in July
The annual pace of inflation jumped to 2.5% in July from 1.8% in June, independent statistics agency ELSTAT announced Thursday.

Food prices keep growing
Alarming data emerged for Greece from Eurostat's final data for June's European Union-harmonized consumer price index: Last month Greece recorded the highest monthly increase at 3.3% in prices in the food category not only in the eurozone, but throughout the European Union. In fact, the increase recorded in food prices in June compared to May was even higher than that in Turkey.

Uneven course of local prices
The average price level faced by Greek households in 2022 for consumer goods amounted to 88% of the European Union average, according to recent data from Eurostat.

EU fossil fuels emissions lower thanks to gas crisis
Carbon dioxide emissions from energy use in the European Union fell by 2.8 percent last year, thanks to reduced use of natural gas following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Eurostat has reported.
The European Union's statistical agency said in a report that CO2 emissions from the 27 EU nations was almost 2.4 billion tonnes last year.
Goods made in Cyprus see prices grow
Industrial producer prices, which refer to the prices that producers receive for the products they make, increased by 2.4% in Cyprus in March 2023 compared to the previous month, according to the statistical office of the European Union, Eurostat. Meanwhile, prices decreased by 1.6% in the eurozone and by 1.5% in the EU during the same period.

Decrease in Production Prices in the EU in February - Biggest Drop in Bulgaria
Producer prices in the EU fell in February for the second month in a row since the beginning of the year, with the biggest drop on a monthly basis recorded by producer prices in Bulgaria, according to data from European official statistics. Meanwhile, annualized manufacturing inflation continued to ease in February from peaks reached in August 2022.

Eurostat's provisional data on March inflation, released on Friday, showed a slowdown in the rate of price growth in Greece, but also in the eurozone as a whole.

Europe’s inflation eases to 6.9% as energy falls but food up
Inflation in the 20 countries that use the euro currency slowed to the lowest level in a year as energy prices dropped, but food costs were still on the rise, keeping pressure on the European Central Bank to hike interest rates further.
