Beşiktaş falters as opponents win in Süper Lig

Defending champion Beşiktaş was held to a goalless draw at Gaziantep in Week 2 of the Turkish Süper Lig as other title contenders added another to their victories in the opening week.

Galatasaray claimed a 2-1 home victory against Hatayspor on Aug. 23, while Fenerbahçe beat visiting Antalyaspor 2-0 with late goal on Aug. 22 and Trabzonspor defeated Sivasspor 2-1.

Fenerbahçe unveils statue of legendary footballer

Turkish football club Fenerbahçe unveiled a tribute on June 29 to one of its football legends. 

In a statement on its website, it said a statue of Can Bartu was revealed at Kadıköy Yoğurtçu Park in Istanbul.

Kadiköy is the club's neighborhood and Yoğurtçu Park is near Fenerbahçe's home ground, Ülker Stadium.

Fenerbahçe announces club will not continue with Belözoğlu at helm

Fenerbahçe President Ali Koç said on June 1 that Emre Belözoğlu would not continue as the team's manager.

Ali Koç delivered a speech and answered questions on the club's official television channel where he gave Belözoğlu the option to stay on as an assistant manager or leave the team.

Beşiktaş increased its points advantage to five in the Turkish Süper Lig after mid-week games as it prepares to take on Hatayspor on May 1.

Its closest rival, Fenerbahçe, was held to a goalless draw at Alanyaspor on April 29, a day after the leader won 3-2 at Rizespor, leading to a huge advantage in the title race for Beşiktaş with four games to go.

Fenerbahçe takes measures against virus in stadium

Turkish football giant Fenerbahçe is gearing up for matches in line with coronavirus-related measures.

"@ulkerstadyumu is preparing for the matches we will play. We take our precautions against coronavirus," Fenerbahçe said on Twitter.

In line with measures announced by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF), two seats will be left empty on each bench.
