Istanbul prosecutors have launched a probe into Fenerbahçe chairman Aziz Yıldırım on charges of maliciously injuring a rival club's chairman, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported 

Aziz Yıldırım, the chairman of Istanbul-based sports club Fenerbahçe, has slapped Işık Eyigüngör, the chairman of the Near East University club, just ahead of a derby match between the two clubs' women basketball teams scheduled to take place on May 7. 

Panathinaikos jumped into joint fourth in the Euroleague after scoring its first big win away from home in the regular season, downing Baskonia on Thursday, while Olympiakos is not at risk of losing its third place despite going down at home to leader Real Madrid on Friday.

A recent report by the KPMG, one of the Big Four global auditors along with Deloitte, EY and PwC, has included Beşiktaş, the Spor Toto Turkish Super League's defending champion, in its eight-team study of "The European Champions," underlining the Istanbul side's efforts toward economic sustainability. 

Olympiakos went down at Fenerbahce on Thursday in a game it should have won in Istanbul given its double-digit lead, while Panathinaikos chalked up a hard-fought win over the Russians of Unics on Friday at home thanks to a buzzer-beating shot by Mike James.

Olympiakos edged even closer to a top-four finish in the regular season of the Euroleague after thrashing Baskonia at home on Friday, while Panathinaikos will likely have to settle for a spot between the fifth and the eighth after suffering a bad reverse at Fenerbahce on Thursday.

İstanbul club Fenerbahçe managed to beat all expectations and beat Manchester United 2-1 at home in a Europa League Group A game late on Nov. 3. Having lost 4-1 two weeks ago in Manchester, Fenerbahçe produced a stunning performance capped by a brilliant Moussa Sow bicycle-kick goal and a Jeremain Lens free-kick.
