Ford Craiova suspends the production of vehicles and engines for eight days, starting with February 26, due to problems related to the supply of semiconductors that affect a large part of the global automotive industry, company's representatives announced on Wednesday. According to Ford Romania spokeswoman Ana Maria Timis, the company's current plan is for production to resume on March 10.

The Ford Craiova factory, which resumed one-shift staged production on Monday, will make its own face masks and shields to provide an additional level of protection for some operations within the plant.

Ford resumes this Monday production at most of its main continental European vehicle and engine plants in a phased approach; activity will also restart at the automaker's Craiova Vehicle Assembly Operations and Engine Plant.

Ford announced on Tuesday the gradual resumption of production of vehicles and engines at its main plants in Europe, starting on 4 May, and southern Craiova plant will resume operations in stages, in a single shift, in both the Vehicle Production and the Engine Production Sections, a Ford Romania release says.

US carmaker Ford is starting on Tuesday in Craiova the production of its new compact crossover Puma, the first hybrid vehicle built in Romania, on an investment of 200 million euros, the company informed in a release.

Romania holds an important place on Europe's map in the car industry, on Monday said in southern Craiova the European Commissioner for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, Elzbieta Bienkowska, adding that in the context of her participation in the Car Industry Forum 2019 she had talks referring to the road-map for clean vehicles.

Ford Company invested approximately 1.3 billion euro in the 11 years since taking over the plant in Craiova, Ian Pearson, Vehicle Operations and Site Director of Ford Romania stated, adding that it is paramount for Romania's Government to carry through its commitments as regards the transport infrastructure.

The management of Ford Romania met on Wednesday with mayors from about 30 Dolj County localities and with County Council representatives to present to them the company's offer of 1,700 new jobs at the Craiova-based car factory, given plans to start the production of a new vehicle model; the Ford officials asked for support with promoting their hiring campaign.

Ford Romania will open this September in Craiova, in partnership with the local authorities, the first Ford Resource and Engagement Centre in Europe, for students and recent graduates to use.

Dubbed Ford Resource and Engagement Center, the hub is part of the projects of Ford Motor Company Fund, Ford Motor Company's philanthropic arm, and will focus on social entrepreneurship.
