Bulgaria must boost defense spending in response to Russia's invasion in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East, caretaker Defense Minister Velizar Shalamanov told the Financial Times' beyondbrics blog.

BRUSSELS- The EU will not interfere in the construction of the South Stream pipeline section through Serbia, but the pipeline will begin operating only after it has been adjusted to European legislations, the European Commission released on Wednesday.

BUDAPEST - Construction of the Serbian stretch of South Stream gas pipeline will start in October, head of the Gazprom international projects department Alexander Siromyatin said Tuesday.

Russia's energy giant, Gazprom, is to cut its gas deliveries to Romania by 10 per cent starting on September 16, without any explanation, the Romanian Energy Minister Razvan Nicolescu said on Monday.

Gazprom is planning to pump less gas then usual into Slovakia on Monday, the country's gas supplier Eustream has said.

Projected deliveries are 49.6 million cubic meters for that day, which is 17% short of the usual volume or 21% than the maximum amount for September, Russian agency Interfax has reported.

The Board of Directors of Russian energy giant Gazprom decided on September 10 to inject EUR 100 M into the capital of the South Stream Transport joint venture.

The move was reported by the press office of Gazprom, as cited by ITAR-TASS.
