The benchmark of the Greek stock market saw a more convincing day of gains on Tuesday on slightly improved turnover. However, although bank stocks headed north for the third day in a row, the momentum will have to strengthen if they are to stage a full recovery.

GEK Terna frontrunner for new metro line prep
Greek conglomerate GEK Terna is seen as the frontrunner for winning a tender to carry out preparatory works prior to construction for a new metro line in the Greek capital, according to sources.
The project concerns work on the first section of Line 4, which will connect downtown Athens from Alsos Veikou to Goudi.

ATHEX: Trading volume sinks to 16 mln euros
August dawned on the Greek bourse with a return to poor trading volume on Wednesday. Still, the Athens Exchange (ATHEX) benchmark ended in the black after earlier losses were offset during the closing auctions.
The ATHEX general index ended at 761.66 points, adding 0.06 percent to Tuesday's 761.23 points.

The inevitable drop in Greek stock prices following the notable gains registered in the last few sessions came on an exceptionally low trading volume on Thursday. Most indexes closed near their day's low and there is no sign of anything that might convince traders to turn their attention back to the local stock market any time soon.

ATHEX: Moderate rise on low trading
The week at the Athens stock exchange got off to a quiet start with a few buyers and no sellers, while more than half of the trading volume concerned pre-arranged deals. Turnover this July bears more resemblance to that which would normally be expected in August, the traditional holiday month, so one can only wonder what levels it will sink to then.
