German airline Lufthansa has canceled 800 flights both passenger and cargo flights on Friday after pilots union 'Vereinigung Cockpit' announced they are going on a planned all-day strike.

SunExpress, a joint venture between Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa Group, added new routes to its Europe network as part of its summer schedule, according to a company statement.

The airline will start its direct mutual flights between Antalya and its new destinations, Riga, and Tallinn, as of April, it said on Feb. 1.

Up to 26,000 job cuts are possible at the German aviation giant Lufthansa. The news comes as Lufthansa's shareholders prepare to vote on a €9 billion ($10.3 billion) bailout with conditions such as slot losses at key airports attached.

Lufthansa has announced it is increasing flights between Germany and Greece from June 15, doubling the number of services it provides from Athens to Munich and Frankfurt.

German flag carrier Lufthansa is planning to request state aid. This comes as the airline's CEO Carsten Spohr warned that 2/3rds of the airline Group's 800 odd aircraft will be grounded.

International flights to and from Iraq's Kurdistan region were set to end from 6:00 p.m. (11.00 a.m. ET) on Friday, after the central government imposed a ban in retaliation for the region's vote for independence, reported Reuters.
