Starting on Aug. 25, Europeans will see their online life change

People in the 27-nation European Union can alter some of what shows up when they search, scroll and share on the biggest social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram and Facebook and other tech giants like Google and Amazon.

Elon Musk says his potential in-person fight with Mark Zuckerberg would be streamed on his social media site X, formerly known as Twitter.

The two tech billionaires seemingly agreed to a "cage match" face-off in late June.

Meta will soon discontinue news access on its Facebook and Instagram platforms in Canada. By the next few weeks, all Canadian users will no longer have news content on these platforms. Previously, in June, a test was conducted that restricted news for a small segment of users. Now, the company has moved beyond testing.

Celebrities, lawmakers, brands and everyday social media users are flocking to Meta's freshly minted app Threads to connect with their followers, including many Twitter refugees tired of the drama surrounding Elon Musk's raucous oversight of that platform.

But the real question is: Will they stay?

In what may be the clearest sign yet that Twitter sees Meta as a competitive threat, the former has threatened the latter with a lawsuit following the successful launch of Meta's new Twitter rival, Threads, reported CNN.

Twitter has threatened legal action against Meta over its new, text-based app called Threads, according to a letter obtained by Semafor.

More than 10 million people have signed up to Threads, Meta's rival to Twitter, within the first few hours of its launch, the Facebook parent's CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Thursday.

A new online communication app is now available in the United States, aiming to become a serious competitor to the social network Twitter. The application is called "Threads" and was developed by "Meta" - the company that manages Facebook.

Facebook owner Meta's new Threads app, meant to compete with Twitter, was available for pre-order on mobile app stores on iPhone and Android operating systems on July 3.

Listed as "Threads, an Instagram app," the new program should be available in the coming days, and is described on Apple's app store as "Instagram's text-based conversation app."
