The countdown is under way to unveil the 2024 class of the European Young Leaders (EYL40). Motivated by the urgent need to tackle the increasing disconnect between citizens and policymakers, and to rebuild the trust that is vital to democracies, Friends of Europe launched the EYL40 leadership programme in 2012. The EYL40 Class of 2024 will be unveiled on 22 January.

The Michelin Guide has said it will unveil its first restaurant selection for Istanbul in October this year.

"Istanbul, which is a first-rate gastronomy destination, impressed our team. Michelin Guide will now introduce this city to gourmets from all around the world," Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide, told a press conference in Istanbul on April 21.

Paris – Slovenian olive oil Vanja produced by Koper-based olive grower Vanja Dujc has won the prestigious Olio Nuovo award for the best olive oil in the northern hemisphere in 2021, the contest’s organisers announced.

Ljubljana – Mario Fafangel, the head of the Centre for Communicable Diseases at the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ), was declared the Person of the Year 2020 by the newspaper publisher Delo at an online event on Thursday evening. Sonimpex Topoloveni, the producer of Topoloveni plum magiun, an original plum jam recipe, has obtained European funds worth 775,000 euros to promote the product in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Vietnam, but it will also participate in trade fairs and exhibitions in Japan, America and Brazil, the company announced on Thursday.

Two years after the death of renowned French chef Paul Bocuse, the Michelin Guide has stripped his flagship restaurant of the coveted three-star ranking it held for half a century, prompting anger and dismay from his culinary peers.              

Sibiu, the only city in Romania with three Michelin stars, the best possible quote offered by this guide, will be promoted in 2020 at tourism fairs in five European countries: Austria, Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, according to the County Tourism Association (AJTS).
