The United States has imposed new sanctions on Iran today, Reuters quoted as referring to the US Treasury Department's website.

The subject of the new sanctions are two individuals and six international companies, including four companies that work with the National Iranian Oil Company.

European oil companies are not ruling out reducing Iranian oil imports after the threat of new US sanctions, with some expecting banking issues to hinder trade, but there was no rush to immediately cut volumes.

Lukoil plans to keep pumping 100 million tons of oil per year between 2018 and 2027 with projects outside Russia and will keep annual investment at $8 billion-$8.5 billion, the chief executive said on Sept. 23.

Iran expects to sign a long-delayed gas deal with French oil major Total in the next few weeks, Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh was quoted as saying on June 17.

Russia's Gazprom Neft and Austria's OMV will work together in Iran's oil sector under a memorandum of understanding, OMV said on June 2.

"Preliminary possible spheres of cooperation include analysis, assessment and study of certain oil deposits located in the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran in cooperation with the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC)," OMV said.

The National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) on Oct. 4 signed a new style output contract with an Iranian firm, a long-awaited template for new contracts it hopes will attract foreign energy investors back to boost output after years of sanctions.

An indictment for Reza Zarrab, an Iranian-born Turkish businessman who was arrested in Miami a month ago over attempting to evade U.S. sanctions on Iran, has expanded from New York to include "Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and elsewhere" as places where the crime may have been committed. 

Reza Zarrab, an Iranian-born Turkish businessman who was acquitted in a vast Turkish graft probe in 2014 after 70 days in jail, has been arrested in Florida on charges of conspiracy to conduct hundreds of millions of dollars in financial transactions for the Iranian government or other entities to evade U.S. sanctions. 

The Iranian government has said a death sentence decision for billionaire Babak Zanjani on corruption charges can change if he repays his debt of around $2.8 billion in cash to the state.

Iran's billionaire tycoon Babak Zanjani has been sentenced to death for corruption, a judicial official said March 6, after a trial in which he was accused of fraudulently pocketing $2.8 billion.
