1690 decares of municipal centuries-old forests are placed under protection by defining them with the status of "forests in old age phase". They are located on the territory of the Kyustendil villages of Dozhdevitsa, Zhilentsi and Gyueshevo, the municipal administration in Kyustendil announced. 

The Bulgarian Supreme Administrative Court has suspended the implementation of Pirin National Park's new management plan, which would have allowed construction in 66 per cent of the park's territory and logging in 48 per cent, said campaign group WWF-Bulgaria.

A huge environmental disaster was unfolding Tuesday in central parts of the island of Evia, where a large wildfire was raging over a front stretching up to 12 kilometers, with the country's civil protection authority declaring a state of emergency.

By the end of 2020, a maritime spatial plan covering Bulgarian territorial waters in the Black Sea should be ready. This was stated by the regional deputy minister Denitsa Nikolova, quoted by the press center of the department. The plan is the first step and fundamental document for the implementation of the country's maritime policy.

The Ministry of Environment will make efforts to urgently address the environmental issues signalled by the European Commission in the letter of formal notice sent this Thursday, the ministry said in a release.

The amendments to the Biodiversity Act are in connection with the Natura 2000 network, Minister of Environment and Water Neno Dimov said during the presentation of the draft, Focus News Agency reports. After more than three years of preparation and discussion, the bill aims to find a balance between various interests, he said.
