Cyprus gas field commercially viable; pipeline to Egypt planned
Cyprus got a fillip over the weekend when partners exploiting a natural gas field off the island announced that the Aphrodite field is viable and could yield up to eight eight billion cubic meters (bcm) a year.
The news also included plans for the construction of a pipeline to Egypt, Reuters reports out of Jerusalem.
France's Total to press on with Cyprus oil and gas search
French energy giant Total will press ahead with its search for oil and gas off the coast of Cyprus, officials announced on Wednesday, weeks after the company indicated it might withdraw.
The announcement came following the signing of a deal by Energy Minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis and Total?s Cyprus operations chief Jean-Luc Porcheron, Cypriot officials said.
Noble set to declare Cyprus natural gas find viable
Noble Energy is expected to declare its Aphrodite natural gas reserve off Cyprus commercially viable within weeks, Cyprus's energy minister said on Tuesday.
The move would allow Cyprus to export gas, Energy Minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis told reporters.

Greek Cyprus eyes gas export pipeline to Egypt
Greek Cyprus signed an energy deal with Egypt on Feb. 16 that could see the island supplying its Mediterranean neighbour with gas.

A Turkish research vessel will continue searching for oil and gas off Cyprus, the Turkish Cypriot authorities have said, extending a simmering standoff over offshore gas reserves between rival sides on the ethnically-split island.
US, Israeli gas field control nixed over monopoly fears
Israel's Antitrust Authority said Dec. 23 that U.S. giant Noble Energy and its Israeli partner Delek would not be able to continue holding offshore gas field Leviathan over monopoly concerns.
The decision, pending a confirmation hearing, effectively dismantles the monopoly held by Noble and Delek over Leviathan and Israel's smaller offshore gas findings.
Cyprus gas firms raise reserve estimate
The reserve estimate for the Aphrodite natural gas field off the coast of Cyprus has been raised by 12 percent, and most of the gas is likely to be exported, Israeli firms involved in the project said.
The new estimate given for the natural gas field is 4.54 trillion cubic feet (tcf).

ENI-Kogas launches search for Cyprus gas
Italian-Korean energy consortium ENI-Kogas has begun exploratory deep-sea drilling for gas deposits off the Eastern Mediterranean island of Cyprus, officials said on friday.
It is the second block within Cypruss exclusive economic zone to undergo exploratory drilling since the first discovery in 2011.
