Fruit growers pleading for aid as crop decimated by frost
Ljubljana – The cold snap that hit Slovenia this week caused damage to all types of fruit orchards nation-wide, as well causing injury to vineyards, olive groves and legumes, initial estimates by the Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry (KGZS) show. In some areas all fruit crop is gone.
Google to update street view of Slovenia
Ljubljana – US tech giant Google will update its Street View service for Slovenia, starting on 8 April, said the Information Commissioner on Friday. Slovenia was first included in the application in 2014.

Adient on shutdown: Slovenia no longer best country cost-wise
Slovenj Gradec – The US multinational Adient today explained its decision to close down its Slovenj Gradec affiliate by saying that “internal assessments and discussions with key clients have shown that Slovenia is no longer considered a best cost country”.
Second tube of Ljubljana ring road tunnel to get facelift
Ljubljana – Renovation work on the eastern tube of the Golovec tunnel, located on the south-eastern section of the Ljubljana ring road, got under way on Monday after work on the western tube was completed. The upgrade, during which the tube will be closed to traffic, is expected to take two months with replacement train transport available at discount prices.
State Secretary Anton Olaj appointed new police commissioner
Ljubljana – Interior Ministry State Secretary Anton Olaj was relieved of his duties as state secretary and appointed the new police commissioner. He will take over for five years on Friday, the Government Communication Office said after the government session on Thursday.
Rapid testing available at community health centres
Ljubljana/Novo Mesto/Velenje/Domžale/Cerknica – Community health centres around the country will provide rapid antigen testing starting on Monday, coinciding with the testing of teachers at schools for children with special needs a day before they return to classrooms.
Mass testing getting under way across Slovenia
Ljubljana – Voluntary trial mass testing will start in Slovenia today, with the Health Ministry giving the go ahead to 13 cities. In Ljubljana, it will take place in Congress Square, while exact locations in other municipalities are to be announced by local communities. Results of these rapid tests are now treated as equivalent to those produced by PCR tests.

Care home residents keen to get vaccinated, staff less so
Ljubljana – Care homes will be among the first to get the vaccine against Covid-19 as it becomes available in Slovenia later this month, however while interest in getting a jab is considerable among residents, staff appear to be less keen for the time being.

Chief coronavirus adviser urges caution in easing restrictive measures
Ljubljana – Infectious diseases specialist Bojana Beović, the head of the government’s coronavirus task force, responded to calls for an easing of coronavirus restrictions by saying extra caution was needed in planning any potential relaxation. The epidemic has been plateauing in Slovenia for weeks and could deteriorate at any time, she warned.
