Albania on Monday faced a fifth day of severe floods, which have forced 600 families from their homes and left more than 4,700 households suffering flood-related damaged.

Albanian Prosecutors to Quiz Former Energy Chief

The Supreme State Audit said in a statement on Saturday that Seferi, former director of Albania's electricity distribution network operator OSHEE, and two other former high-ranking officials at the form are being referred to prosecutors for further investigations after an audit found procedural irregularities in procurements of electricity from private companies in 2014.

Auditors Query Albania Electricity Firm's Data

A group of independent auditors hired by Albania's electricity distribution network operator OSHEE, to audit its financial statements for 2014, has refused to give an opinion, noting inconsistencies in the data.

The unaudited financial statements of the company shows that in 2014 revenues jumped to 47.2 billion leks (?337 million) from 37.7 billion leks (?269 million) in 2013.

Albania Energy Companies Accused of Illegal Tenders

Opposition leader Lulzim Basha accused the public utility company OSHEE of buying electricity from traders at the price of 57 euro per MWh, while at the same time the Albania Power Corporation, KESH, was selling traders electricity for 38 euro per MWh.

"All this abuse cost Albanian taxpayers four million euro in two weeks," Basha told a press conference on Friday.

Albania Launches Drive Against Power Thieves

Inspectors from Albania's electricity distribution company, OSHEE, aided by police, have launched a massive operation to ascertain illegal connections to the grid.

The government says that those found stealing electricity will be prosecuted, following changes to the criminal code, which raised the penalties for electricity theft.
