OLP profits raise state revenues

Piraeus Port Authority (OLP) achieved an increase in both its turnover, by 12.3 percent, and net profits, by 27 percent, on a yearly basis in 2019, mainly thanks to growth in container handling at the second and third container terminals operated by Cosco subsidiary PCT. There was also a notable improvement in revenues from ship-repairs and cruise tourism.

Piraeus Port posts 19 pct turnover rise in 2018

The turnover of Piraeus Port Authority SA (OLP) in 2018 amounted to 132.9 million euros compared to 111.5 million euros in 2017, an increase of 19.2 percent, the company announced on Friday.

Profit before tax amounted to 42.3 million euros, up from 21.2 million euros in 2017, an increase of 100 percent, according to an e-mailed statement.

Court finds strike at PCT illegal

Employees at Piers II and II of Piraeus' Container Terminal (PCT) returned to work on Friday afternoon, as the 24-hour strike called by the Piraeus Labor Center was found illegal by a local court earlier in the day.

The court ruling came after an injunction filed by DPORT, the company that manages staffing for PCT, a subsidiary of China's Cosco.

Piraeus port enters new era with increasing handling capacity

Piraeus port, the largest harbor in Greece, entered a new era of handling 20,000 plus twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) vessels on Monday when China's Cosco Shipping Taurus giga container vessel, one of the biggest worldwide, docked there.

The 400 m Taurus is the largest vessel to berth at Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT), opening a new chapter in the history of the port.

Taiwan's Yang Ming picks PCT

Another international container shipping company, Taiwan?s Yang Ming Lines, is about to expand its use of the installations of Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT), the local subsidiary of China?s Cosco Pacific. Yang Ming follows the example of MSC, Maersk and Cosco itself, while other firms, such as France?s CMA CGM, occasionally use Piraeus too.
