STA’s new editor-in-chief takes office
Ljubljana – Aljoša Rehar took over as the new editor-in-chief of the Slovenian Press Agency (STA) on Monday after serving as the head of the agency’s digital strategy group for the last seven years. He succeeds Barbara Štrukelj, who was the content chief for 12 years and decided not to seek another term.

STA among recipients of Watchdog Awards for journalism
Ljubljana – The Slovenian Journalists’ Association has announced this year’s recipients of the Watchdog Awards, with the most prestigious ones awarded to Večer journalist Glorija Lorenci and the Slovenian Press Agency. The jury noted that Slovenian journalism had remained responsible, professional and ethical despite a challenging year.
Police visited STA chief supervisor due to a number of reports
Ljubljana – The police is leading an investigation to determine whether there are elements of suspected criminal acts prosecutable ex officio based on allegations of irregularities regarding the STA. Investigators visited the STA chief supervisor based on a number of reports of these allegations and not based on a government decree, the police has said.
STA supervisory board urges govt to release overdue funding
Ljubljana – The supervisory board of the Slovenian Press Agency (STA) has called on the government to immediately settle all of its outstanding liabilities to the STA and to comply with its legal obligations to finance the STA public service.
UKOM suspends financing of STA, which says its work is undermined
Ljubljana – The Government Communication Office (UKOM) has informed the government that it is not able to implement the contract with the Slovenian Press Agency (STA) for 2020 and to conclude a contract for 2021. The STA has not received its monthly compensation for October from UKOM, which its leadership says threatens the agency’s future work.
