Eurobank grows 2019 profit, loan-loss provisions ease

Greece's third-largest lender Eurobank on Thursday reported higher full-year 2019 net profit compared to a year earlier as provisions for impaired loans eased.

Eurobank, which is 2.4 percent owned by the country's HFSF bank rescue fund, reported net earnings of 127 million euros ($140.86 million), up 36.2 percent from 93 million euros in 2018.

Turkey's first coronavirus patient confirmed

A Turkish citizen with high fever and cough symptoms was diagnosed with the coronavirus following tests, making him the country's first confirmed diagnosis, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said early on Wednesday.

The male patient is in good health condition and his family and people who had close contact with him are under observation. 

EU drugs regulator say no shortages yet, steering group to monitor

The European Union's healthcare regulator said that no drug shortages or supply disruptions have been reported in the region but that an EU steering group had convened to prevent supply bottlenecks due to the coronavirus outbreak.

"As the public health emergency develops, shortages or disruptions cannot be excluded," the European Medicines Agency (EMA) said in a statement on Tuesday.

The head of the European Central Bank Christine Lagarde will participate in a video conference of the EU's 27 leaders to discuss measures to counter the coronavirus, the Council of the European Union said in a tweet.

Greek industrial output falls 1.2 percent y/y in January

Greek industrial output fell 1.2 percent in January compared to the same month last year, after a downwardly revised 4.2 percent decline in December, data from statistics service ELSTAT showed on Tuesday.

Looking at index components, manufacturing production rose 3.9 percent from the same month in 2019, with water output down 0.4 percent.
