Ljubljana – The start of May will bring a new Slovenian TV series that seems to be tailor-made for fans of TV dramas imbued with a sense of mystery and thriller. The 8-episode series will premiere on TV Slovenija on Sunday evening, featuring several famous Slovenian actors.

Ljubljana – Commenting on the general election results, Social Democrats (SD) leader Tanja Fajon said on Sunday her party, which came in fourth, was satisfied over “the attainment of the common goal”, meaning that the new government will no longer be centre-right but centre-left. “People have been hungry for change and we must enable this change now.”

Ljubljana – Calls for the resignation of the director general of public broadcaster RTV Slovenija and TV Slovenija editor-in-chief are mounting after Thursday’s election debate turned sour with several opposition leaders leaving after some of the participants accusing each other of past mistakes and after the host seemed to lost control of debate.

Ljubljana – The Freedom Movement party has condemned in the strongest terms a tweet by Žan Mahnič, the state secretary for national security at the prime minister’s office, which labelled one of their candidates, Faila Pašić, a “radical Islamist” and accused the party of opening doors to Islamisation and sharisation of Slovenia.

Rome – Prime Minister Janez Janša and Cardinal Franc Rode featured as witnesses in a documentary on summary executions in the wake of Second World War that was aired on Rai 2, the second channel of the Italian public broadcaster, on Saturday night.

Munich – President Borut Pahor held several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, focussing on the Ukraine crisis, including with his Finish and Montenegrin counterparts.

Ljubljana – Nurses, staff at social care institutions and pharmacies went on strike this morning after yesterday’s negotiations brought no meaningful progress, neither a pay increase similar to a recently agreed one for doctors and dentists. Public broadcaster RTV Slovenija has reported that 50,000 staff would be on strike today.

Ljubljana – Freedom Movement, the party of Robert Golob, leads the field among parliamentary and new parties in the latest poll commissioned by RTV Slovenija. The ruling Democrats (SDS) are in second.

One out of five respondents in the poll, conducted by Mediana, said they would vote for Freedom Movement, an increase of 6.8 percentage points from January.

Ljubljana – The Credentials and Privileges Commission proposed that the National Assembly appoint to the programme council and supervisory board of public broadcaster RTV Slovenija five candidates each who had been proposed by the coalition, the Pensioners’ Party (DeSUS) and the opposition National Party (SNS) much to the chagrin of the centre-left opposition.

Ljubljana – The National Assembly is meeting for an eventful plenary session tomorrow that will culminate on Friday and next Monday with debates and votes on the opposition-sponsored motions to oust Environment Minister Andrej Vizjak and Interior Minister Aleš Hojs.
