Conservative Logar to face liberal Pirc Musar in runoff

Ljubljana, 23 October – Anže Logar, the conservative former foreign minister, won 34% of the vote in Sunday’s presidential election in Slovenia and will face lawyer Nataša Pirc Musar in the 13 November run-off after she picked 27%. Being limited to two terms, incumbent Borut Pahor could not run again.

SD without own presidential candidate

Ljubljana – The coalition Social Democrats (SD) will not field their own candidate in the 23 October presidential election and the party will also not endorse any of the candidates running, the SD presidency decided on Monday. SD leader Tanja Fajon said the party might decide to endorse a candidate in a potential run-off.

SDS and NSi oppose Golob as PM, leave door open for cooperation

Ljubljana – Deputies of the Democrats (SDS) and New Slovenia (NSi), who are to be in the opposition in the new term, said that Robert Golob could not count on their support as the National Assembly is taking a vote on the prime minister nominee on Wednesday. They nevertheless said constructive cooperation with the new government was a possibility.

Left leadership gets vote of confidence, mandate for coalition talks

Ljubljana – The council of the Left on Friday endorsed the party’s executive committee, headed by coordinator Luka Mesec, after the committee put their mandate for a vote of confidence. The party leadership has been given the mandate for talks with the Freedom Movement to enter a coalition headed by Robert Golob.

Golob’s party in lead in RTV Slovenija poll

Ljubljana – Freedom Movement, the party of Robert Golob, leads the field among parliamentary and new parties in the latest poll commissioned by RTV Slovenija. The ruling Democrats (SDS) are in second.

One out of five respondents in the poll, conducted by Mediana, said they would vote for Freedom Movement, an increase of 6.8 percentage points from January.

LMŠ announces no-confidence motions against environment, justice ministers

Ljubljana – The opposition Marjan Šarec List (LMŠ) has drafted motions of no-confidence in the environment and justice ministers, Andrej Vizjak and Marjan Dikaučič, and has already shared them with fellow opposition deputy groups. The announcement comes a day after the SocDems (SD) announced a similar motion against the education minister.
