CEZ's Fault Leaves Half of Sofia in the Dark for 6 Hours

A massive technical fault of energy utility CEZ left downtown Sofia in the dark from 4 to 10 pm yesterday, reported Standart News.

Bulgaria Has Received 50 Migrants From Greece Under the EU Relocation Quotas

Bulgaria has received so far 50 migrants from Greece under the EU relocation quotas, data of the European Commission presented on September 6, reported Standart News.

Bulgaria promised to receive 860 migrants from Greece. No migrants were received by the beginning of this week from Italy and Turkey.

Bulgaria has to receive from Italy 471 under that agreement.

Tuition Fees Go Up by 13.6% From 2017

The beginning of 2017-2018 academic year will see the tuition fees for certain BA and MA programs of some state universities across the country go up by 13.6%, reported Standart News.

The increase is also for the medical schools, Varna Medical University is the only one to set higher tuition fees for its programs Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry. The increase is by BGN 300 a year.

Protest Against The Construction of a Skyscraper in Sofia

Residents of Sofia's Strelbishte quarter formed a live chain at the junction of Bulgaria and Ivan Geshov's boulevards for about half an hour yesterday evening, reported Standart News. 

They protested the plans of a private construction company to build a skyscraper in the place of a small garden in their neighborhood.

Varna's Sky Restaurant Sees Emergency Landing by NRA Inspectors

A few days ago, inspectors of the National Revenue Agency (NRA) directorate visited Varna's unique sky restaurant (it is actually a large platform hanging down from a hot air balloon), disguised as customers, reported Standart News. 

They were asked to make reservations worth 150 levs (just under EUR 75) each, but did not receive any receipts upon payment.

Hand Grenade Found in Sofia's Mladost 2 Residential Deistict

A hand grenade was found in the lawn in front of a supermarket in Sofia's Mladost 2 residential district, reported Standart News.

The area was immediately cordoned off by a patrol of the local police department and an anti-bomb squad was called in.

The sapper seized the grenade but did not find any other explosive devices in the area.
